The final of the Estonian Surfing Championships took place on 21 November 2025 in the Tamri region of Morocco, at Mussels Break. The best surfers were awarded, among other things, with AEGAON’s Genesis 2.0 watches. The top male surfer was Keijo Ruuven, and the women’s winner was Gretel-Marii Siimar. Our support paid off generously, as the surfers surprised us with an incredibly cool video.
Just as people once laughed at the idea of making watches in Estonia, many also laughed when the Estonian Surfing Championships were first proposed. Time has shown that anything is possible. Wave surfing has been quietly practiced for years in Ristna, Hiiumaa, and increasingly also in Vääna near Tallinn. A sort of boom began during the Corona period when borders were closed, and those used to catching salty waves abroad had to find ways to surf at home. Today, things have developed to the point where handcrafted surfboards are being made to match the specific wave conditions of different Estonian beaches! For example, while the water in Hawaii is salty and the waves are shaped by tides, in Estonia the water is fresh and waves are wind-generated. This simply means that we have fewer surfable days and boards need to be slightly larger for better buoyancy.

Surfing is one of the most challenging sports in the world. We know this from experience, as two members of the AEGAON team – Kristjan and Rauno – happen to practice the sport at a beginner level. One reached wave surfing through wakeboarding, while the other fell in love with foamy waves by chance on a holiday trip.
So, it is extremely smart and completely understandable that the Estonian Surfing Championships take place elsewhere, such as in Morocco. During the final round, the men demonstrated solid technical skill, surfing waves of various sizes both frontside and backside. This is something never before seen in the history of the Estonian Surfing Championships!
“The level has improved compared to previous years! You can feel that people are training, surfing real waves, and there’s always someone on your heels. You can’t just sit in the water anymore,”
said Keijo Ruuven.
