AEGAON Open 2020 Golf Cup opens with a big bang!

AEGAON Open 2020 Golf Cup opens with a big bang!

The first stage of the Estonian Golf Cup 2020 AEGON Open was held at the Pärnu White Beach Golf Course. The great weather and the presence of legendary Lithuanian discus thrower Virgilijus Alekna made the competition even more special. The starter and prize giver on this occasion was the newly appointed executive director of AEGON, Rauno Kutti.

"I was only informed of the role of starter at the location, but let us say that it was fun. Golf is actually way more awesome than many people think. It is a game that requires precision, creativity and character – just like AEGAON watches”, said Kutti, summarising the emotions on the day.

The winners of all the leagues were given spectacular trophies and the first placed golfers received engraved AEGAON watches. Runners up and those placing third were awarded with 100 and 50 Euro AEGAON gift certificates respectively. Peep Tammemäe, who attracted the first Estonian watch company to golf, evaluated the partnership so far as running superbly, and mentioned that the players themselves considered the awards table to be impressive.

"Rolex supports golf in other parts of the world, but in Estonia we have AEGAON. For me, they are like the Estonian Rolex. The AEGAON’s unique design appeals to me personally much more and truthfully, the fact that such a cool, world class thing is being made in Estonia is outrageous", said Peep Tammemäe, the head of the Estonian Tour.

The organisers were pleased to see that in the men’s stroke play, the course’s PAR was broken again. The best result was achieved by Aksel Seppel (-1). The winner of the previous competition, Ralf Johan Kivi (+4), came second, and third was Robin Udov (+7).
There were two tough competitors in the women's stroke play and the winner of the watch was only decided on the last hole. . Anete Liis Adul (+8) proved to be stronger this time and Triin Marleen Ustal (+9) had to settle for second place.
Amongst the senior men, Ake Andressoo (+4) came, saw and conquered and left Richard Jürgenson (+6), who has risen from the first league to the master’s league, in second. Heinu Klaas (+8), who to date has ruled the senior class, had to accept third place. The senior title will not be decided until the ball droppes on the final hole of the course. AWESOME!
The senior women made Kersti Klaas’ life very easy. Kersti only had to come and play 18 holes without being disqualified and the AEGAON watch and the ranking points were hers. The lucky winner, in her victory speech, did not forget to thank Anne Petter and Margarita Ross, who could not make it to the competition.

Estonian Golf Cup Series points have already been awarded to 109 players and this number is growing with each event. Access to the final competition, which will be held on September 19, will be given to the top 5 in each class, and the rest of the competitors will be taken from 2/3 of the Estonian Golf Cup rankings, where all players’ points are calculated and put together.

Engraved watches will also be given to any player who achieves a Hole-in-One during the season! Last year, this was managed by Mart Maidessoo at the Pärnu Bay course.

The awards table at the final will be rich again and one should be prepared for a longer awards ceremony. Currently, the draw prizes have a total value of EUR 5500, but this is increasing every day.
